Does anyone think Bryzgalov has played himself out of a buyout? IMO, it should still be on the table the next two offseasons regardless.

But he should have stopped Phil Kessel's late first period goal scored to the long side from a severe angle
- bmeltzer

With all due respect, it's easy to blame the last guy. Sure, it was definitely stoppable, but Kessel never should've been there and/or allowed to get off a shot.

With the lack of guys likely to be available this summer, he has to get at least another year. Then re-examine in the summer of '14.

Briere is a buy-out candidate this summer.

i don't know the stats, but it's not just bryz and the EN goals - it's gone on for years. they virtually never score with the extra attacker, and almost always yield an EN goal. Conversely, when the other team pulls their goalie, the flyers rarely, and i mean RARELY score an EN goal themselves, even in extended situations of 1:30-2 minutes on the clock. it reminds me of their futile efforts in the SO.

I think he should be considered regardless of his play because of how much money is tied up in the back end of his contract. Could be an issue with the cap reformulation penalty.

#Flyers report to Skate Zone at 11 am. No on-ice practice time has been confirmed

If there is practice today, the first drill should be tackling practice. Timonen has picture perfect technique. Nnamdi Asomugha should take notes.

The power play stinks.
They get out worked far too often for far too long.
Defensive lapses leave Bryz hanging in the breeze.

The power play is good but only the 1st unit. That first unit is top 10 in the league and the second would have trouble scoring in the AHL.

briere has a NMC clause - unlikely to go anywhere, and he's not great trade bait even if he agreed, because of his high cap hit - even with their being only 1 more year left on his contract.

they just extended kimmo another year at 6 million. why would they do that and then flip him? again, high cap hit - and he's clearly struggling, battling injury. he's not going anywhere.

The special teams were a huge issue early in the season, both the PP, and the PK currently both sit in the top 10 in the NHL.

They just can't win these types of games. Bill is right. The tightest checking teams that grind games out are very successful against the flyers

True, but he is out of sync with the Flyers in the sense that he is supposed to be at his peak right now and the Flyers are not. When the young kids are mature and by the time Holmgren can put together a decent D corp, he will be over the hill and taking too much cap space.

Getting his contract off the team would help the "rebuild".

Just need to find the playoff bound team that needs a practically invisible little ghost during the regular season.

An overpaid, smallish, aging center with a NMC.

Sure. He's tradeable.

Due to their cap hits

Bryz
Briere
Mez

all worthy to buy out.
I know Mez is hurt and he will be a welcome addition when he is healthy. I'm speaking strictly due to their cap hit.

1. With who in goal?
2. They're out of sync because, quite frankly, they're (frank)ing him over. With the recent exception of JV, he's the only one who has come to play on a consistent basis this year. He gets worked really hard every game.

Peter Laviolette elected to send out the team's struggling second power unit immediately after the goal.
